“The hardest fun you’ll ever have.†– according to students who participate in FIRST® Robotics competitions. Joel Ferrigno, ACCEDE Manufacturing Engineer and mentor for Greater Rochester Robotics – Team 340, agrees. On October 22, 2022, he helped lead the team to the Semi-Finals at the FIRST® Robotics Rah Cha Cha Ruckus event in Rochester, NY. This was one of many robotic events Joel has been involved with. For ACCEDE’s Joel Ferrigno, FIRST® Robotics has been a passion since high school. He joined Greater Rochester Robotics – Team 340 as a freshman at Churchville-Chili High School. He and his teammates succeeded in winning seven different awards. He continued his dedication with robotics while attending college at SUNY Polytechnic Institute. Accede Mold & Tool hosted their 4th annual Manufacturing Day on October 6 and 7, 2022. Continuing with past successes, we showcased our state-of-the-art moldmaking to students and educators. Our “Walk the Process” of plastic injection moldmaking included visits throughout each ACCEDE department with hands-on activities. Students and educators gained insight and knowledge while presenters shared their pride and excitement for their careers in the moldmaking industry. Brett Lindenmuth, VP of Operations and MFG Day Tour Guide & presenter, says, “This day provides exposure for the students to manufacturing, specifically moldmaking, where it can be limited throughout their school years. We look forward to showing them the opportunities they may not be aware of.” Since our first event, ACCEDE has introduced nearly 200 students and educators to the moldmaking industry.

Recently, the Plastics Industry Association published a special edition commentary regarding the U.N.’s environment resolutions. Patrick Krieger, Plastics Vice President for Sustainability, answers some common questions about the resolutions and what they mean for Plastics members. “I’ve heard from a lot from members who are worried about what this means for the plastics industry,†said Krieger, “but I think it would be helpful for everyone to take a breath and not panic. We are still very early in the process and the difference between the early proposals and the document that was ultimately accepted makes me optimistic that the parties involved are open to industry’s fact-driven advocacy.â€
