Accede Mold & Tool joined in the national movement offering their first Manufacturing Day event in October 2018.
The Manufacturing Institute explains, “Manufacturing Day℠ is a celebration of modern manufacturing meant to inspire the next generation of manufacturers… Manufacturing Day is an incredible opportunity to showcase the amazing work manufacturers do on a daily basis and to educate students, community members, media and policymakers on how integral manufacturing is to the local, national and global economy.”
ACCEDE welcomed over 100 participants which included students, counselors, and work force development administrators from all over the Greater Rochester region.
Throughout the day visitors had the opportunity to walk the process of designing, building, and testing a plastic injection mold. Visitors learned about the engineering and manufacturing processes used to create an injection mold including CNC milling, CNC turning, wire and conventional EDM, grinding, polishing, and inspection with shop tour stops. During the tour visitors were able to hear about background and details from a variety of ACCEDE team members with an explanation of why they enjoy working in Manufacturing and their favorite parts of their jobs.
Keith Kane shared about the ACCEDE apprentice training program and talked about his more than 25-year career with ACCEDE – starting as an apprentice, moving to a specialty department, managing that department, and going on to manage the Apprentice Program.
Other popular tour stops during the day were the Q&A session with a lead mold maker and the ACCEDE sampling lab where visitors could see a wide variety of molds run in plastic injection molding machines. Tessy Plastics, a leading precision molder and contact manufacturer also headquartered in the NY Finger Lakes Region, provided a video to help visitors understand what the next steps in the supply chain include once a mold leaves ACCEDE.
Danielle Gramlich, who leads Organization and Employee Development at ACCEDE, reported, “The day was enjoyable for both the students and our team of employees. We have a few more tours lined up for December and are already excited to grow our MFG Day next year!”
